Does menstruation hygiene matter?

Mensuration

Menstruation Hygiene awareness is a valuable resource for women and girls in low and middle-income countries who want to improve their menstrual cycle.

In a country like India, it is critical for women and girls to have access to clean water, hygiene bathrooms, and appropriate hygiene to manage menstruation hygienically and with dignity; nevertheless, this is currently a neglected topic.

Menstruation is the subject of many cultural beliefs, myths, and taboos. Managing menstruation and communicating with menstrual women are almost always subject to societal conventions or unwritten laws and customs. Some of these are beneficial, while others have the potential to be detrimental.

A dilemma and our opinion

So, do you believe that we, the twenty-first century, should defend the truth and raise awareness about it or stay mute?

In our opinion, we must continue to do our share and provide the groundwork for a society free of stigma; if we all band together for this, we can create a better tomorrow for women.

We at SFC always tried to discover new methods to stay connected to elevating society. We are ecstatic to announce that we have undertaken an awareness session on 16th Oct 2021 for imparting knowledge on menstruation hygiene under our Women Empowerment initiative at Community Hall, Sector – 40, Gurgaon. At this event, we had 2 Guest Speakers (Ishu Shiva and Dr. Kusum Lata) and Chief Guests (K.K. Chaudhary, Ashwini Sharma, and Shahwar Shohrat)

About our event:

Considering COVID safety protocol as paramount, we distributed more than 250 masks to the audience. The event unfolded with a light conversation with the audience to make them feel at ease, wherein Ishu Shiva (Managing Director – Sanitree) played a vital role. From scratch till the end, she led the awareness session followed by free counseling sessions. Her way of engaging with the audience boosted them to participate; They shared their concerns with her, and in return, they received the desired solutions. Furthermore, she gave them a live demonstration on how to use and dispose-off sanitary pads.

Dr. Kusum Lata (Senior Homeopathic Consultant) enlighten this event as a good doctor knows how to deal with situations differently. While Ishu Shiva was demonstrating, Dr. Kusum Lata answered/clarified doubts from the doctor’s point of view. Near the end of the event, she also provided a free consultation to the attendees.

Our Chief Guests K.K. Chaudhary (President, RWA Gurgaon Sec 40), Ashwini Sharma (Municipal Councillor- Ward 19 Gurgaon Sec 40), and Shahwar Shohrat (President WICCI) supported the event by participating and encouraging the audience at the event. They all talked about the importance of spreading and utilizing the knowledge they are acquiring about menstruation hygiene.

SFC distributed 250 sanitary pads packets to the audience during the session, and afterward, Ishu Shiva taught them the correct way of using them. The session was followed by lunch. In the end, SFC distributed dry rations (With the support of the GD Goenka World School, Sohna Road, Gurgaon.) to the attendees.

The most remarkable part of this event was when we had an unexpected footfall of more than 250 women. They promised us to implement the knowledge and spread it to their neighbours.

It is the reason we say:

A meaningful life is not discovered but produced by our activities. And it all starts with thinking about how to help others.
