The world is definitely not becoming a better place these days. With people getting infected with and dying due to Coronavirus; the impending recession, things look gloomy. While normal life has started resuming. Yet we all are afraid. As we never know, How this virus will impact us? Whether we will be able to sustain the job? and What not? At this time, do you think Tree Plantation makes sense?
At times like these, is when one desperately needs a ray of positivity. A small action of goodwill and good work sets a chain of reactions bringing positivity to the universe in general. In keeping up with this ideology, we at Scope for Change conducted a Special Plantation Drive at Sec-40, Gurgaon. Under this, plantation drive we planted 100 saplings in the park. We conducted this event, in association with the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram, the District Administration, Gurugram, Gurujal, and Hero Groups’ WeCare.
We are very happy to say that we received whole-hearted support from the local communities as well.
Why this Activity Now?
We know that many of you must be having this question. About, why did we undertake a plantation drive, at a time when social distancing is being asked to be practiced?
We took all the necessary precautions for the safety of Volunteers. Also, post this activity, the entire team will maintain strict home quarantine for a couple of days.
Having said that, here is the inspiration behind what we did and why we did it:
As guided by Municipal Corporation and local RWA, water conservation is an activity we all must pursue on an individual level in our daily lives as well. In addition to this, our urban forest cover has been diminishing at a fast rate. With the pressure to build more and more housing societies to accommodate the growing population, it becomes really tough to go without cutting down the trees. While this solves one problem, it creates many more such as increasing temperatures of the urban areas, negatively impacting biodiversity, increased floodings, etc.
Thus, it goes without saying that planting as many trees as possible is an obvious choice to make.
